History

The 1950's
Donald W. Applegate established Lucas Products Corporation in 1957. The primary nature of the business was manufacturing PATCHIT ® coated fabrics for use as heat seal mending tapes and patching materials. Other products were manufactured or distributed including diaper pail, household and pet cage disinfectants and SUNNIES ® Eyeshields for sunbathers. In addition the firm acted as an inventors marketing company.

The 1960's
The Patchit ® line was expanded to include commercial uses such as industrial, linen, laundries, hospitals and uniform rentals. In the early ’60’s the SUPER SUNNIES ® Eyeshields were introduced. The SUPER SUNNIES® Eyeshields soon found a specialty niche market application as they were well suited for use as sunlamp goggles to be sold with home sunlamp kits manufactured by General Electric, GTE Sylvania, Westinghouse Electric, and others.

The 1970's
FABRI-LOC ® Adhesive Bonding Net was introduced to the coated fabrics line as a related item and in 1979 the tanning salon concept was brought to the U.S. from Europe and sales of the SUPER SUNNIES® Eyeshields grew exponentially.

The 1980's
The market for sunlamp goggles in the 1980's redefined the company. We were now the major producer of goggles for the indoor tanning market. The FDA wrote new regulations for sunlamp safety at that time. Since Lucas Products Corporation had already been manufacturing an eye goggle for the industry, we were instrumental in assisting with the new laws. Our goggle met the highest eye safety standard in the world for ultraviolet (UV) eye protection. The fabric division continued steady growth, establishing a 35-year track record.

The 1990’s
LUCASOL™ Deodorizing Disinfecting Cleaner and the tools to help the salons use the solution correctly were introduced in the early ’90’s. In 1994 new colors and fabrics of PATCHIT ® Heat Seal Mending Tape were offered. 1997 saw LUCASOL™ Hand ™ Instant Hand Sanitizer added to the line with a new and improved version in February 1999. 1999 also saw the unveiling of a new PATCHIT ® Heat Seal Mending Tape color chart, and the LUCASOL™ Hand™ Touch Free Dispenser.

The 2000’s
In 2000, SUPER SUNNIES® iGEAR™ were developed specifically for the indoor tanning market. Their one piece construction and transparent jewel tone colors, developed from research on the benefits of using color in mood therapy, made SUPER SUNNIES®-iGEAR™ Eyeshields the new standard for indoor photoprotective eyewear. In 2004, Diluvia Dead Sea Mineral Skin Care Products were added to the LPC line.
